Mechelen neighborhoods recommendation needed

As goes for a lot of cities, living in the center (inside or on the Mechelen Ring) can be considered as safer than living in the outskirts/suburbs.
Places in Mechelen that could be considered as less safe are Mechelen Noord (Pennepoel), Nekkerspoel, the train station area and Spreeuwenhoek (Mechelen Zuid).
Very good alternatives in the area exist though, places like Sint-Katelijne-Waver, Duffel, Rumst and Bonheiden have the advantage of being lovely villages yet having relatively easy access to Brussels and Antwerp via the E19 (despite the inevitable traffic jams ofc).
