mice problem
Hi, our cat found a mice last month. We get rid of it. This weekend we detected some mice droppings (tiny black pieces) so we are a bit worried that they are entering our apartment. We suspect the closet where the boiler is located. There is the chimney.
Currently isolated all food-stufs and emptied the kitchen cabinets.
While trying to contact the building manager and landlord I did some desk research for professional help. Rentokil, Coplaclean and Animal Pest Control were the companies I shortlisted. Tried Coplaclean but they came and tried to use their chemicals immediately without even checking the kitchen.
Does anyone have recommendation for solving our mice problem? While we're ok for chemicals we need someone to be selective and really detect where the mice are entering the apartment and eventually block it.
Were the droppings fresh? Have you seen more? Mouse tend to keep away from places where they can smell a cat so if you have a cat you should be OK unless there is a major infestation near your apartment.
Mice dislike strong smells try putting moth balls where you think they are coming in,to deter the,PM. if they are in the building they will want to come in they can and do chew through plaster board walls. Try spraying a mix of chilli powder or hot sauce and water on hard floors under fridges and places they can hide. ask your neighbours if they also have issues. . Look for signs of chewed food boxes. Poison is an issue of your cat will eat the mouse after and glue traps are just plain nasty. Live traps hard to use and then you have to let the critters go.
Unlikely to be a long term problem if you have a cat. Indeed, it could well be that it was the cat that brought in the one that it eventually "found", they rarely kill them immediately.
They are endemic in country areas and no one dies - or indeed bothers that much.
Blocking their holes up really upsets them and they never come back. Of course, you got to catch them first.
You can buy at Brico feed which will kill them by drying their blood so that the smell is kept to a minimal.
Eric with respect they have a cat you don't want to put poison in the food chain the cat maybe hurt by poison
We recently had an issue of mice; they appeared in our balcony and we caught 3 of them with traps ! our balcony is on the 2nd floor of a building.
It is very strange how they managed to climb there; we suspect that the is an inside hole, under the wooden tiles of the balcony...
We are tenants and apparently the responsibility falls on the owner; we informed the syndicat but they said that they cannot take action unless we have proof that there are mice in the common parts of the building! it is very disappointing. Does anyone knows if there is a legal provision under the Belgian Law on this ? so I can engage more my landlady in taking real action ? thanks for your consideration and help.
Hi @KASSICH, do you still have the mice issue? Our landlord told us that according to the belgian law, the tenant hast to pay for plague control, as long as the problem does not affect other parts of the building. I dont believe him, but I have not found a law related to this.
