Minimes Cantat
With its festive depiction of the birth of Christ, the brilliant opening cantata of the famous Christmas Oratorio is justly one of Bach’s best-loved works. Preceding it is the powerful but almost unknown ‘Actus musicus’ for Christmas by Johann Schelle, an earlier Cantor at Leipzig. Linking them is the hymn Luther wrote and sang with his family at Christmas in 1534. Dress warmly and join us for this very special event!
“The cantatas of the Minimes” have been a Brussels institution for 41 years now. Every fourth Sunday of the month, we present the cantatas of J. S. Bach as the Cantor of Leipzig had done in his time. Free admission at 17.00 for a concert of about 45 minutes in the very beautiful church of Saint-Jacques-sur-Coudenberg where the faithful audience will regularly come for a great spiritual and cultural moment.
