Mobile Phone contract termination

Question

HI, took out a 2 year gsm contract mid september of this year and wish to cancel it - any ideas if i'll have to refund or pay something towards doing this?

I thought that they had recently made these "early cancellation policies more favourable for consumers these days !?

This is odd I thought now days the rules have changes so they couldn't tie you in to more than 6months. Certainly that was my understanding. if you are leaving to study I know you can get out of contracts but that's all.
