More than 100 Brussels Brits became Belgian since Brexit decision
As the procedure for the departure of the UK from the European Union officially starts this afternoon, it appears that more than 100 British nationals living in Brussels have received the Belgian nationality since the referendum in June last year.
The highest number of British people in Brussels lives in Ixelles (1,500), and about 300 of them last year requested information about how to obtain Belgian nationality. Forty-one have since become Belgian, and the procedure is still running for 26 others.
In Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, where more than 600 Brits live, 37 applications have been submitted since the referendum, about half of which were already approved.
Since early 2016, an additional 25 British people became Belgian nationals in Etterbeek, 18 in Uccle and 14 in Boitsfort.
