mosquito net

Question

Hi,

I would like to install mosquito net for one of our windows. It is basically to protect the cat from escaping. I am a tenant and I will check with my landlord but just doing some homework. I am told that the windows are from Raposo but the landlord did not had a good experience so in need to search for alternative companies.

How about you keep the window closed, then the cat can't escape?

Alternatively, get some chicken wire from Brico and gaffer-tape it onto the outside of the window frame.

Alternatively, ditch the cat.

Alternatively, get married to someone who's been to the university of life. FFS.

A mosquito net certainly won't stop a determined cat from escaping as it will only take it a few minutes to work out how to pull it down using its claws.

I am also doubtful whether chicken wire gaffer-taped to the outside of the frame will be cat proof either. Cats are both intelligent and strong.

You probably need chicken wire (or equivalent) securely fixed within a double wooden frame which can then be clipped into the open window frame - and make sure the clip arrangement is cat proof too.

You could try contacting this company to see what they suggest: http://www.clotures-pour-chats.be/

They did a fantastic job of securing our balcony and nine years later the net is still in perfect condition and has not required any maintenance or repair at all.

If you go to Brico, Gama etc they all do kits where you can cut the frame to size yourself. It then jams in the frame. Getting a company in to do it is silly and very expensive.

Thanks all for the answers including J!
I know what cats can do and a proper mosquito net (with a frame) will be robust and by no means we will leave the cat alone while the windows are open. This way we could lair our living room while the cat is around. In the current setting we lock the cat in a room or close the door of the living. With either option we can not really air the area. I will not do any DIY as this will easily damage the facade and look ugly.
