Moving from the United States to Belgium

Question

Hi there,

I am looking for reliable resources about the basics of being a US citizen living in Belgium - such as, tax responsibilities, pets, time allowed to be in each country, etc. And if anyone has any helpful bits of information related to this - it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks!

Google FATCA. US citizens are no longer free to leave the USA. Holidays excepted.

Get in touch with a/the Belgian embassy in the US. You may have to double-check the info they give you, but at least it's a start.

There is a company in Brussels (they have branches internationally) that I found very helpful with regards to immigration info. They are not inexpensive but they are thorough. Fragomen Global // Main: +32 02 550 10 20 // http://www.fragomen.com

It is worth it to make sure you do it the right way.

General info on pets, etc. is better sourced through the previously mentioned options. Hope that is helpful.
