Need an advise on how to rent somthng without having a job

Question

Dear all, it would be great if I can get an answer (the best from a landlord himself/herself) on the following question:

I have recently lost my job due to the restructuring of the department. Also I want to rent another appartment due to separation from my partner (yes, it's been a funny year for me indeed :)). As i have never been unemployed before and as I do not have financial difficulties, I was faced with pretty funny problem - nobody wants to rent to me as soon as they know i do not have a contract. Neither my sincere promises of being able to have the rent, nor my proposal of showing my financial credibility (via current account) seem to work. I am a bit in despair, as I have never thought it could be such a problem! Could you please share your idea's on what i can do in this situation? I started to think of faking my payslips , but I really don't want to lie actually... Any landlords in the community? What would make you believe me that there will be no problem with my payments???!!! Thanks in advance for any constructive answer.

well your story sounds (hopefully) a temporary one, since you need to adjust few things in your life, a new job and get over the relation why don't you try to rent a room in a shared apartment for few months until things get sorted? There is plenty of choice coming up in some facebook pages (brussels expats, bxl à louer etc) and you might not need to sign any contract on your name, maybe just a sublet if allowed.

then you can concentrate on looking for a job, and maybe move on in life, which I can positively see you already doing it.

Unfortunately owning properties can be a risky investment especially if there is a mortgage for the owner to be paid and in these days it can be quite risky. so you should understand landlords point of view as well.
