Tents are much cheaper these days. You can buy pop- up festival tents for a tender. Try Decathlon, they will also do cheap sleeping bags. You can leave the stuff there normally also if you want and some charity will benefit.

Look in a larger Carrefour. You should be able to pick up a couple of dome tents and sleeping bags quite cheaply.
