Brussels Muzieque presents piano quartets concert on 26 October
Celebrate the season opening of Brussels Muzieque's 2024-2025 concert series with a compelling chamber music programme on 26 October.
The performance is staged at one of the capital’s Art Nouveau architectural treasures, the Musical Instruments Museum.
It features Monika Dars on piano, Meruert Karmenova on violin, Monika Mlynarczyk on viola, and Eduardo Tonietto on cello. This concert offers a rich exploration of 19th-century chamber music, showcasing the evolving styles of Brahms, Mahler and Schumann.
For Johannes Brahms' Piano Quartet in C minor, Op. 60, the performance will highlight the third movement, Andante, as a stand-alone piece. Composed in 1861, it exemplifies Brahms' mastery of lyrical and expressive writing, contrasting the quartet's otherwise dramatic character with its serene and reflective quality.
Gustav Mahler's Piano Quartet, composed around 1876, is an early example of Mahler's chamber music, displaying his burgeoning symphonic style and orchestral imagination. Although incomplete, it provides insight into the German composer's developing voice and his approach to thematic development.
Robert Schumann's Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 47, was completed in 1842. The quartet is a cornerstone of the Romantic piano quartet repertoire. It features Schumann's characteristic interplay of lyrical themes and intricate counterpoint, with a structure that balances expressive depth and formal innovation.
Brussels Muzieque is a collaborative organisation that invites worldclass chamber music artist to perform in concerts at venues across the city.
