The Marolles shines! New art trail illuminates the Brussels city-centre district

Marollescence is a new dazzling art trail lighting up the streets of the Marolles until 5 January.

The urban walking tour invites visitors to rediscover the city’s iconic neighbourhood via a series of iridescent and reflective artworks.

It features six artistic installations that stretch from Place de la Chapelle to Place du Jeu de Balle. In addition, a new mural by French graffiti artist Jef Aérosol in Rue du Faucon, entitled Derniers poètes, celebrates the artistic spirit of the popular neighbourhood.

The route starts in Place de la Chapelle, which also hosts an immersive photo exhibition that runs to 25 November. Large black and white reproductions, emblematic of the second half of the 20th century, retrace the evolution of several shopping streets in the popular Marolles quarter.

Together, the artworks provide an urban show that comes alive at night thanks to a backlighting system. Explanatory totems line the route to guide and inform visitors.
