Payment of overdue Renolution grants finally resumes
The payment of outstanding Renolution renovation grants for Brussels residents who improve the energy efficiency of their homes has resumed after a long pause, partly due to the lack of a Brussels government.
A number of Brussels residents carried out renovations on their homes with the intention of being reimbursed through the programme, which required the work to be finished before applications for reimbursement could be submitted.
But the programme quickly ran out of money and thousands of households were left in the lurch. The lack of a Brussels government then added to the wait time.
Now Brussels’ state secretary for urban renewal, Ans Persoons (Vooruit), has confirmed that the budget for reimbursing these households has been set at €56 million and Brussels residents who carried out renovations in the past can expect the payment to be credited to their accounts in April and May.
“After months of uncertainty and waiting, we are honouring our commitments and starting to pay out the outstanding renovation grants,” Persoons said.
“Every application submitted and approved will be processed, and the good news is that the grants will actually be paid out in the coming weeks, finally.”
Since the start of 2026, 334 Renolution applications have already been processed, representing a total of almost €5 million in grants paid out.
Grants for a further 2,967 applications are ready to be awarded, representing a total of €45 million. The remaining 300 applications will be processed shortly.
This new round of reimbursements concerns all submitted and approved applications for renovation works with a final invoice dated 2024. The backlog will be cleared in the coming weeks.
“The government is taking responsibility by finally fulfilling its obligations towards the people of Brussels, whose applications have been pending since 2024,” said new secretary of state for urban planning Audrey Henry (MR).
“We must dare to go further: simplify, speed up and encourage. That is the ambition behind the future interest-free loan we are preparing, so that we can offer concrete support to those who wish to renovate.
"Reconciling climate ambition, quality of life and economic dynamism is perfectly possible."
The Dilliès government is working on a successor to the grant scheme for energy-saving renovations. The aim is to replace it with interest-free loans.
