Driving licence revocation too easy to avoid

12:01 13/11/2012

Having one’s driving licence confiscated on the spot by the police is too easy to avoid, De Standaard reports. As things stand, anyone who has their licence confiscated by the police for speeding, dangerous driving or driving under the influence can report to their town hall the next day and get a duplicate simply by reporting the original document as lost. At the heart of the problem lies one crucial shortcoming: there hasn’t been a database for revoked driving licences since… Windows 98! But all this is about to change: as of next year there will be a database and all abuses will be punished by up to one year’s imprisonment.
