Tomorrowland snaps up top gong at Festival Awards

11:52 10/01/2013

Belgium’s Tomorrowland was named Best Major Festival at the Festival Awards Europe last night, reports Music Week. It’s the first time a festival of electronic music has won the top prize. Dance music also triumphed in the categories of Best Indoor Festival (Sensation, Netherlands) and Best New Festival (Germany’s Electro Magnetic). Best Medium-Sized Festival was won by Heineken Balaton Sound in Hungary while the title of Best Small Festival was reclaimed by 2010 winners Tauron New Music Festival in Poland – which took place in a disused coal mine. The two most important industry-facing awards also went to Belgium, with the team behind Pukkelpop declared Promoter of the Year, and, as previously announced, Herman Schueremans from the country’s division of Live Nation received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
