Belgian-French journalist Yves Debay killed in Syria

The Belgian-born French war reporter Yves Debay, 58, was killed in Syria, according to reports from the Arab news channel Al Arabiya under the authority of the Information Center of Aleppo. Foreign Affairs Minister Didier Reynders has confirmed the news. Debay was killed by sniper fire while reporting on the fighting between the Syrian opposition and government forces in the northern city of Aleppo. In 1985 Debay traded in his rank in the Belgian Army for a career as a war reporter. For the magazine Raids he released numerous reports on the Lebanese civil war, the two Gulf Wars, the war in Yugoslavia and the war in Afganhistan. He described himself as a "rebel journalist".
