Another notice period question

Question

Hello again. So - once you've been given notice (the legal requirement in minimum 3 months), you start looking for work. If you find something and want to start sooner than the notice period, how does it work? I think someone had posted that counter-notice would be for a 6 week period. So my question is: is that correct, and also, does that depend on the original duration of the notice period? Ex If I have been given 6 months notice, then is it still 6 week counter-notice? Thanks very much in advance.

Firstly, any employer looking to take on new staff has to take into account the fact that anyone currently in employment will have to give 6 weeks notice so that is factored into the recruitment process.
Secondly, if you have been given notice, your employer wants to get rid of you so it is extremely unlikely that they would object if you want to leave earlier and save them the salary that they would have to pay you if your work out your notice in full.
Finally, many employers will be delighted to let you go early - they don't want staff who know that their time is up and who will no longer care about how well they do their job.

Unusually for KASSEISTAMPER, I'd have to dissagree with the 6 weeks counter notice.

It is complicated. It depends on whether you are an employee or a worker, how much you earn, what sector you work in, and how long you have worked there.

Suggests that you could have to give anything from 2 weeks to 2 months counter notice during your notice period.

Though I do agree - it is highly likely that you will be able to reach an agreement which works for both parties.
