‘Top 10’ Belgium supported by 4,200 fans in Scotland

12:14 04/07/2013

The Belgian football team will be supported by 4,200 fans on September 6 in Glasgow, where they face Scotland in their eighth qualifying match for the 2014 World Cup, the Belgian football association announced yesterday. The sport’s governing body  and the 1895 supporters group are currently negotiating the allocation of additional tickets to Red Devils fans. "The level of interest for the Scotland game is huge. Demand was much higher than supply and available tickets sold like hot cakes,” said the Belgian FA. Belgium currently tops Group A, with 19 points from seven matches, three more than second-placed Croatia.

Such is the current popularity of the Red Devils that the national team has played its last five home games at the King Baudouin stadium in front of sell-out crowds. The same applies for August 14’s friendly against France. Belgium has climbed two places to tenth in the new FIFA rankings, its highest position since the introduction of the ranking system in December 1992.
