Changing (Transmission) Gearbox in MINI cooper 2004
Dear Xpats,
I am starting to have some problem with changing my gears, Hence i was thinking to change the transmission (Gearbox) along with the clutch. Are there anyone has experiences of facing same problem? If someone can kindly advice me how much it is going to cost or even some advices related i will be highly appreciated,

Unless you have received already a clear diagnose that the gearbox and clutch are faultyI would refrain into engaging into this change as the difficulties you listcan be caused by many things thus not necesarily requiring the change of both: eg a used clutch can result in difficulty of changing gears, lack of oil in the gearbox can also (although rarely) result in this problem. I never changed these on a Mini but I did on other cars and you should easily expect the bill in couple o thousands (3-4) if you do thr change at BMW or a minimum of 1500 if you do the change using a second hand gearbox and a non-brand garage.
Sell the bugger privately for what you can get for it and buy a new car.
What kms are on the clock? -- I go with teh first answer - look to teh clutch first. Some cars they are adjustable - but if badly worn you can have problems changing gear - along with slipage. Have teh clutch looked at first. Kms a clutch will last vary wildly depending on driving style.
At 135k it could be just teh clutch - They often last longer than that -- but I know of ones that have gone after less than 50k (Resting foot slightly on teh clutch pedal or racing starts can have a massive effect on clutch life - My employers runabout - used as a van and as a car just had it's clutch replaced at 100k - Gear change is a lot better following.. If teh car has a mechanical linkage between the gearstick and teh gearbox - then this can also cause problems after time (wear on rubber bushes) - though would hope that they would last a lot longer than 135k. My money is still on the clutch - but I can not advise a good garage . One test you can do at home -- Place foot on clutch - have handbrake on. Put in 2nd gear and rev a little - release teh clutch slowly - does teh car stall immediately? or can you feel teh clutch slipping?
