Interior decor question

Question

Not great on the interior design front and would welcome views. House is 1949 three storey with basement with none of the earlier decorative features, so fairly plain and currently decorated in 70s style from former owners which we are stripping off.

Living room will have black leather sofas, dark blue rug, large modern floral tapestry (blue/pink) and tiffany ceiling lamp in blue pink, plus dividing door with small stained glass feature in blue. Parquet floor.

The chimney breast is covered in a pale stone cladding and the fireplace itself is metallic (gold colour) and small.

My question is about the cladding. I have no strong view on it but is it as horrendous and unacceptable as my sister says it is??? It seems like a big job to remove it. Is chimney breast cladding a compete interior design horror????

Thanks for any views. I do know this is trivial stuff before anyone tells me but then again, its no more trivial than a lot of question posted :-)

Georgiana, if you don't remove that offensive cladding pronto, you will be all but shunned by polite society and le beau monde. Your neighbours will point at you in the street. Your children will be treated as pariahs. Do you seriously want to live like that? hahaha!

Are you saying that you have always agreed with and been jealous of your sister's choice of clothing, boy-friends, husband, music, car, home and so on and on?
If not, she is just offering an opinion that you are perfectly free to ignore; particularly as it is you who has to live with your decision and not her.
If my sister told me that such-and-such was inappropriate, I would keep it out of sheer bloodymindedness; if she told me that today was Tuesday, I'd check the calendar.
BTW, in my home you will probably find things that you (and your sister and CMH) dislike - I couldn't care less as I am happy with things as they are.

Thank you CMH.... lol....restoring my perspective.........we have decided to add another Tiffany lamp in a gap in the cladding to draw even more attention to it and this will have the added benefit that my sister will rarely visit ..hahahaha...
