In terms of percentage, drivers in Wallonia are more often drunk when involved in an accident than drivers in Flanders. In Flanders, however, many more accidents happen. That's according to the newspaper group Sudpresse based on data from the Belgian Institute for Road Safety (BIVV). Last year in Flanders, 23,801 drivers were subject to an alcohol test after being involved in an accident with injuries. This is 74 percent of the total. of which 6 percent of the drivers blew positive for too much alcohol in their blood. In Wallonia16.3 percent of the drivers checked (9,898) blew positive, or more than 2.5 times more than in Flanders. In Brussels, the number of drivers checked is even lower, with 4,957 or 59 percent of the total. Five percent had had too much to drink.
