Never registered at Commune
I really need good advice. I am from the UK and have being living here for 2 years and never registered for a commune. I moved houses a bit so it was always going to be the next thing to do. Now ive settled. I need to register. After two years! I hear awful things about registering. Does anyone have advice, will I get allot of trouble for registering only now? What to do? Is there a service/agency available the could help me register? Please help Thanks
It all comes down to what commune you'll be registering. Scharbeek might be the worse one by far.
But if youre not in that commune or the Brussels one, it shouldn't be so bad.
And my friend from Greece registered in the Brussels commune 3 years after the fact, and he didn't get any trouble. His biggest complaint was the wait time.

Just go and register as soon as possible. I don't think you'll get into trouble and at least you've settled now.
Just go and register (I just did). yes, it takes more time than you'd think.
Upon your arrival in Belgium you have 14 days to declare yourself at the commune. If you have been living here for 2 years and settled down already you may have some serious problems when registering. I would waste no more time, and go do it immediately!
You have to find your local commune (you can find it using Google very easily) address and go there as quickly as possible.

Sorry but if you have been living here for 2 years and never registered for a commune you deserve all the trouble and hassle that you get!!
The most trouble you'll actually get will be left to wait and be asked to go back to commune again and again
Don't give in to the fear mongering.
We have a coupe of colleagues who registered years after and they themselves were shocked that they had no trouble registering at all. This about 18 months ago, so unless the commune has gotten really strict, doubt you'll be getting in serious trouble with the commune.
It's impossible to predict. I would have thought worst implications are for tax, if you're on a Belgian contract.
You need to register to regularise your tax situation. You should do this ASAP. Most people get a tax refund, and you sound like you've missed out. If you owe tax and get caught, the fines can be huge. But if you're doing something about it, you are very unlikely to get fined.
Well, I'm sorry but I have to say that this posting is a snobbish and arrogant! While many foreigner in this country struggle everyday to have a decent life and have their rights respected, I really have no understanding for these kind of people who live in this country illegally. Because at the end people like you are no different than those commit other crimes...tax evasion is one of them!
