Rush hour lane inaugurated on the E40
Flemish minister for mobility Hilde Crevits yesterday inaugurated a rush hour lane on the E40 between Sterrebeek and Heverlee. The rush hour-only stretch is 7km long and is expected to improve the flow of the traffic between Brussels and Louvain in the early evening. A recent study conducted by the Flemish Mobility Centre highlights the need to improve fluidity between Sterrebeek and Heverlee, but added that fluidity would also need to be improved on the E314. A similar arrangement will therefore be introduced on the E314 between Heverlee and Wilsele. Commuters are expected to gain up to 20 minutes on the E40 and 18 minutes on the E314. The rush hour lane on the E40 is in principle operational on weekdays from 14h to 20h, but may also be ‘activated’ in the event of an incident.
