Voo or Belgacom?

Question

Voo or Belgacom? We are moving to a Brussels commune not covered by our beloved Telenet and we will need to pick either Voo or Belgacom as internet/digital TV provider.

Their offers are quite similar in terms of pricing and services, just wondering how they compare in terms of customer service and in terms of real performance as opposed to advertised performance.

Any feedback from you expats?

Peter Forrest

We have used VOO in two communes, and have had issues both times. In Woluwe, we had internet and telephone cutting out too often for our liking. Here in Waterloo, we took Belgacom for telephone, and still have VOO for TV and internet. No issues with Belgacom yet (except a 2 month wait for connection), but internet with VOO is too slow at times for gaming, even after upgrading to 50MB!!. Apple TV is struggling here too. VOO customer service varies from OK to just plain bad. An IT guy told us lately that Belgacom is better for internet, at least in Waterloo. Belgacom is not known for great customer service either, by the way. Good luck.

We've never used VOO, but have had Belgacom for the past 6 years and overall, we've had no major issues. Problems are infrequent and I don't think the customer service is worse (or better) than what you normally get here.

We took Belgacom back in the day when it was the only option for phone and, later, internet.
We have since taken Telenet for TV but have flatly refused to change a phone and internet service which has been faultless for 20 years. And staff in the local Belgacom shop have always been helpful on the very rare occasions that we've been in there.

We got belgacom instead of numericable in our area because friends recommended them.

Unfortunately for us, belgacom was a total nightmare. It starts with the simple fact that they advertise one month free of internet, and yes, you get your equipment right away, but you cannot install it yourself, or at least at the time we got it, 2010, we couldn't. Then they tell you that you have to wait for the technician to come and install the internet, and as somebody mentioned, the wait is worth up to 2 months; we waited about 5 weeks. And if you call to complain they tell you, but you get one month free so you have no internet, but you're not paying for it.

Then they came, and didn't install the internet right. They sent a tech, and we got charged 50 euros for it. That tech couldn't fix it, so they sent somebody else and that was another 50 euros. We made a complain so they cancelled that 2nd 50 euro charge.

After 6 months of horrible service, they finally got the internet right, and didn't have troubles after it. In other words, after 6 months, our internet is not disconnecting every so many hours and the speed is fine. So if you get a competent technician to come and install the internet connection right the first time, then internet is ok. If you don't, then good luck.

VOO: Brutele in disguise.

For those of you who've been here long enough, that should be enough to warn you!

We don't have a choice here, we have got VOO. They're OK if you can put up with frequent, almost daily lapses in internet signal. There's something about the period 2 - 3 o'clock which seems to throw them.

To be fair, they answer the phone readily and send someone out promptly, but I get the feeling that nothing is actually really fixed. I realise that out in my little village that perhaps the cabling etc needs updating, so I guess their hands are tied somewhat. We don't even have a GSM signal here (yippee!).

Just go with the one that has the telly channels you want. The after-sales service is probably pot-luck after all.

Every ISP will have someone posting a nightmare story about them at some point, as these things happen. I'm in IT and a heavy user at home. Have always used Belgacom and other than minor niggles have had no real problems.
It occasionally has moments when it connects disconnects for up to an hour or so, but so far not to an extent I've been tempted to change.

I never had Voo but I'm thinking about going with them. Belgacom by far has the worst customer service I've ever seen in my life even worst than Bellcanada.

I ordered Internet and mobile from Belgacom on January 28th. Today March 10th I still don't have internet cause no one came to install it. I call them every week and every time they say someone will call you in 48 hours to set up an appointment but no one calls, except once. That day I took half day off from work to wait for them at home and no one showed up and when I called them they said they cant do anything.
Now I had a problem with my mobile and I went to change the sim card and they say until I don't get my internet installed can't get my mobile to work. How is this related ???????
Here at work more than one person complains about Belgacom. No idea what to do anymore. I hear that here in Belgium the internet service (and specially their customer service on the phone) is not as good as Northamerica or even other european countries like Germany or France.......

Anyone moving to Wallonia, or already there - BUYER BEWARE! VOO is aweful, there is NO reason to choose VOO over Belgacom. Belgacom has exclusive rights to all the good channels, all the English speaking channels available, has better customer service (now that Proximus is involved), better quality, better billing system and is just a better product all around. VOO is a a nightmare.

You have been warned - STAY AWAY FROM VOO unless you like headaches, disconnected services, poor TV channel options. Choose VOO is you need to add misery and complication to your life.

I could give the score -100 to VOO if I can.

VOO is no doubt the worst Internet provider I have never seen in the past.
1. Severe billing issues: they tried to over-charge me with bills more than 6 times in 3 years of usage.
2. Constantly slow internet, internet breaks frequently. Most severe one was I was left without internet for nearly half a month. Think twice if you do business at home.
3. Poor customer service, no English, service line is always busy (no way to call-in), ticket response average time > 7 days.

It was not a good start, during the installation, they charged me 129 + 89 = 218 euros, not the 129 euros agreed in the phone.

Then the nightmare began: the major internet broke, not able to call in service line with countless try, waited for more than 7 days for the ticket to be processed and to be contacted, waited for another couple of days for the technician and he didn't show up but still tried to charge me 50 euros. The dispute took nearly 4 months to be settled by the 3rd party to rule them mis-charge.

Today comes another stupid bill and an information on the contract has been renewed and price had gone up without any beforehand notice.

Can you believe it? All my colleagues who used VOO in the past have switched to Proximus.

VOO is a total disaster.
