C4 is the form you'll need to present when you apply for unemployment benefits and your employer has to supply it to you on your last day of work.

The form states the reason for finishing the contract. In case there is any disagreement on the reasons, you should consult your union before you accept the C4. The way of the reason is expressed is important in defining whether you'll be entitled for unemployment benefits.

In addition to C4 your employer has to supply:
* attestation de travail - document that certifies your title and the dates you worked in the company
* attestation de vacance for the running year and for the following year (calculation of your holiday accrual and of days you have already used)
* Salary slip for all the pending salaries and benefits

You should also ask for proof of returning any equipment you have had (company phone, badge, laptop etc.).

Aside of C4 the documents can be send within couple of weeks from the day you finish your work. On the year following the closure of the contract your ex-employer will have to send you the calculation of your annual income and deductions made on your salary (the document you need to fill in your tax declaration).
