Belgium calls for reconciliation in Egypt

11:23 08/10/2013

Belgian deputy prime minister and foreign minister Didier Reynders yesterday expressed "deep concern" over the level of violence that continues to affect Egypt and threatens both political and socio-economic stability. Reynders in a statement deplored the death of many people in acts of violence in recent days and called on all sides in Egypt to exercise restraint. "The Egyptians must take the path of inclusive dialogue and reconciliation so that the entire population can return to the path of peace, security, prosperity and stability," he said. "Inclusive dialogue and reconciliation are more urgent than ever," he stressed and added that the fight against terrorism can only be effective if carried out in accordance with respect of human rights.
