where to buy 5w-30 engine oil?

Question

(1) Any recommendations where to buy 5w-30 engine oil (VW 504 00 / 507 00) around Brussels ?

I am specifically looking for 2 x "4 ltr. Castrol EDGE Professional LongLife III 5W-30" . In neighbouring countries, they seem to sell this for less than 10 euros per litre (while auto5 seems to sell it for 25 euro per litre).

Last time, Audi garage charged me 60 euro for topping up 1.5 litres for my audi a6 model 2006. They have agreed to skip oil change with them for the next maintenance due in few weeks.

(2) Is it easy to change oil by myself ?
(3) How much a private garage will charge in Brussels for oil change?

Oil is horrendously expensive in Belgium compared to other countries. I always buy mine when I'm in UK.
'Is it easy to change oil by myself ?' Yes if you are reasonably mechanically competent and have the appropriate drain plug spanner. It's even easier if you have a creeper, a hydraulic jack and a pair of ramps but none of these is essential. It takes literally minutes to:
1. remove the drain plug,
2. replace it and
3. replace the oil, leaving as long as you like between 1 & 2 to allow the old oil to drain out.

I second kassiestamper -- I also buy oil on my occassional trips to the UK -- there is an easily accessible Halfords just off the motorway at Folkestone.

Normally oil filters and oil are pretty simple to change -- As are many other basic maintenace tasks -- See if there is a Haynes manual for your car -- worth their weight in gold.

An isssue with modern cars is teh service or oil change light resetting -- however there is a standard connector on all cars and you can buy on amazon a reset device which clears the light

I do the basic maintenance on our cars -- oil changes, brake pads etc -- I leave timing belts to experts!

Only do what you feel you are happy to do -- if unsure best to pay a garage.

Thanks for the tips, Kasseistamper and Luke!

Will certainly buy from outside the country. Will look out if car tool kit has a drain plug spanner. will also look for Haynes car manual. Time to learn how to use jack from car tool kit, I better learn this at ease rather on the road side :)

Found some vendors in amazon do ship it to Belgium. Still seems a bargain despite shipping cost, adding 2.5 euro per litre postage, for a top notch premium oil, still 12 euro per litre instead of 25 euro.

Thanks again wonderful folks!

Hi there

One extra critical bit of info -- never trust a jack -- if you are going to be under a car -- then you need axle stands or ramps -- To avoid axle stand damaging the underneath - you can use a rubber block or wood -- also check where you can place the stand - nothing worse than it going through teh floor of your car! :-)
