You don't need a lawyer. Just join the huurdersbond. It costs only 15 euro per year. They will handle any problems you have with your landlord.
That seems to be a pretty common problem in Belgium. I suggest fighting them until the end and not backing down!

I also had a big problem with my landlord. He owed me over 1000 euro that he would not pay back, and he was demanding an extra 15 euro a month that he was not entitled to. I brought all the information to the huurdersbond and they wrote him a very polite and to the point letter. Long story short I got my 1000 euro back and he didn't get his 15 euro per month he was demanding.
Huurdersbond translates to renters union. There are offices in several cities in Belgium. Just Google them and find your local office.
if you do decide to go for a lawyer I can highly recommend ours, Jane Arkell, she is a specialist in these kinds of issues and speaks perfect English.
