Belgians can expect smaller mobile phone bills in 2014

12:20 23/12/2013

Call it an early gift for many Belgians this year as mobile phone bills are set to drop. Consumer Affairs Minister Johan Vande Lanotte has announced an agreement with Belgium’s four major mobile phone companies that will see fees drop for many customers.

The deal has the telecom giants set to offer their longer-term customers, under contract for at least two years, cheaper plans. Some estimates have some customers paying up 40 euros less per month.

Proximus, Base, Mobistar, and Telenet/VOO say they will contact the majority of their customers who apply for the new savings by September of 2014. Some 800,000 mobile users will benefit from the deal.

The Belgian Institute for Postal services and Telecommunications will oversee a new campaign named ‘Switch and Save’ set to notify consumers of the new fees.
