Pregnancy and birth - Please recommend a good doctor in Brussels

Question

Dear xpats,

I would be grateful for any help. My wife is 3-months into her first pregnancy and we want to find a good doctor in Brussels. We've had the first consultation and ultrasound scan at the Montgomery clinic. We find them a bit expensive. Can someone please recommend a good doctor who will follow her pregnancy and give us guidance? Any tips or information in this regard is welcome.

Thank you in advance

I recommend Mme. Dominique Leleux, in uccle
I have been with her for 20 odd years as a gynecologist , though not through delivery (my children are older). Speaks good english.
tel 03 379 03 84 - stress that this is for pregnancy, she is very busy.
good luck

for me it would depend on where I live and plan to give birth, as when heavily pregnant, travelling across the city is going to be harder on your body than travelling a short distance.

Maybe it would help if you state your commune and preferred hospital for birth or if you're going for home birth.

Hello ukexpat! Congratulations to you and your wife!

Have you thought about midwife-led care? (unless your wife might be considered high-risk?) Antenatal care from many independent midwives is fully reimbursed, and you still have the option of a hospital birth (either with your own midwife performing the delivery - only possible in certain hospitals - or with your midwife accompanying you, and delivery by the on-duty obstetrician).

A few visits to a gynaecologist are still usually recommended (and you'd have your scans done by a sonographer), but this could be a way to reduce costs ... and can also offer more continuity of care, as your wife could see the same midwife after the birth.

Do you know the English-language website 'The village' (www (dot) thevilllage (dot) be)? You can find more info there about midwife-led care (in Pregnancy > Who looks after me?).

The Brussels Childbirth Trust also run a good 'Pregnancy in Brussels' session which might be interesting for you. Google for their website (I seem to have trouble posting links here).

Thank you all for your replies and advice. We live in the Schuman area. The doctor in Uccle might be a bit far away for us. The Village and Brussels Childbirth Trust have tons of information that we are currently studying. We are not looking into the midwife option.

Thank you!
