Insurance for Tradesmen

Question

Hi, I have asked a roofing firm to clean my gutters, and someone mentioned I need to have my own insurance in case they have an accident. i would assume if I contract a roofing firm they have their own insurances... or is this too simplistic ?
Anyone know if this is true, I don't want to be held liable if there is an accident.
Thanks

J

Call your insurance broker and ask what you need to check. Both from your perspective and theirs.

I have never heard this before nor do I have insurance for tradespeople who work in my house. Yes, one would assume that a roofing firm has their own insurance, assuming that they are not an illicit outfit. Perhaps this "someone" is confused about the usefulness and/or obligation to have a insurance "responsabilite civile"?
