Naturalisation - need a lawyer
Hello,
We are a couple with EU citizenship and two children born in Brussels. We would like to apply for a Belgian citizenship for our children. I went to the commune and got some information, but I would like to have the assistance of a lawyer so that I can take the appropriate steps correctly. Can you recommend a lawyer that can advise us in this process? Thanks.
You don't need a lawyer. Just fill in the forms that the commune have given you. O.K. If you want to throw away money to a lawyer, your best bet would be to randomly pick one from the phone book, ring them up and ask that they bill you for services you don't need.
The commune should be the best people to advise you. I don't see the point in paying a lawyer to ask the commune for you.
If the children are 18, they have to apply themselves.
If they are under 18, they become Belgian when one of the parents becomes Belgian, so you would have to fulfill the necessary conditions and apply yourself.

I agree with the first replies. You don't need a lawyer - or, at least, not unless and until you have been refused and want to query the decision.
I took Belgian nationality as did my wife at different times and in different communes. Neither of us had any problem whatsoever; it's a simple procedure of filling in forms.
