Trouble with new build

Question

We are buying a new appartment which is currently being built. The builder/client contact from Socatra first said it would be ready end of hune but is now not willing to give us a date for completion or confirm a date. We've now sold our flat and will probably need to put all our funriture into storage + temporary accomodation.
I've asked my notaire to put more pressure from his side but it seems he is not getting anywhere as the other notaire does not reply.

Any tips or advice on what to do to get things moving or to at least have a date of when we can expect the work to be finished?

J

Sorry to hear this. Your Notaire is indeed the person to go to, and I hope for your sake that the contract has some solid penalty clauses in that will allow you to recover your costs and maybe get some compensation for the stress caused by them failing to meet the contractual completion date. And I hope there's a clause that covers you in case the building firm goes bust as well.

Check your Acte de Vente for the articles: (1) Debut des travaux et delai d'execution which should give the start date and number of jours ouvrables to complete the work, minus days when they could not work because of bad weather; (2) Indemnites pour retard which should give a figure, possibly 25 euro per day but which can only be claimed on the basis of a registered letter. That's it more or less. However, agree with J that you need an appointment with your notaire to explain how to interpret the clauses in the contract you have signed. Good luck.
