Homeopathy now legally recognised in Belgium
Homeopathy is now officially recognised in Belgium as a distinct therapeutic system, according to the Royal Decree published today in het Staatsblad. The federal government already approved the proposal in July last year. Homeopathy encompasses the use of alternative treatments to conventional medicine such as nutrition and diet, acupuncture, herbal remedies and more.
From now on, only doctors, dentists and midwives with additional training in homeopathy may call themselves homeopaths. People with a bachelor's degree in health care that practice homeopathy, such as nurses, will be allowed to continue to practice as a transitional measure.
The recognition of homeopathy does not necessarily mean that it will be reimbursed by the health insurance companies in the short term.
