Help for a troubled teen
Does anyone have a personal recommendation for an English speaking psychiatrist, psychologist or therapist for my teenage daughter. I fear that she has started self-harming by cutting (very common at the school she attends). She denies it, but does admit to being anxious and worried about issues that she is not willing to discuss with my husband and I. Any personal recommendations very welcome. Thank you.
Hi Mary
Try Service de Santé Mental (SSM) Chapelle-aux-Champs. They have specialists who work with children and young adults. I am not sure if they have an English speaker, but they do offer consultation in many non-Belgian languages, so chances are English is one of them.

I can highly recommend Dr Eric Dachy. He works with CHS +32 (0) 2 648 40 14 in Ixelles http://www.chs-belgium.org/home/index.php/about-chs/the-clinical-team. He also has a private cabinet in Uccle. He is a medical doctor, child psychiatrist so you do not need a referral from an other doctor to be reimbursed by the mutuality. His mobile is 0486 253974

Dear Mary,
I support everyone's comments recommending CHS. From there I would recommend Lara Brandel.
Moreover, I give free art therapy sessions. It is a very effective method to use especially with children and teenagers who don't feel comfortable expressing their feelings verbally. I think psychotherapy is mandatory, but art therapy would complement perfectly in this type of situations. If you want to know more information go on www.chezpinkelephant.com.
Best of luck to you and your daughter!
