Nuclear power plant back in operation

10:59 20/10/2014

One of Belgium’s nuclear power plants, Tihange 1, located about 40km from Maastricht, was restarted last night following a period of maintenance. The restart occurs in stages, and it takes a few days for the plant to run again at full speed, operator Electrabel told the VRT.

The reactor was shut down in August for maintenance, and for the reparation of several cracks. The restart was originally planned for in November, but the reactor is needed before then due to the power shortage expected to affect Belgium this winter.
