Jewish schools closed for the day

10:47 16/01/2015

The major Jewish schools in Antwerp and Brusselshave cancelled all classes today, reports Joods Actueel. The decision comes in response to the heightened terrorist threat today across Belgium.

Belgian monthly newspaper Joods Actueel reported the decision on its website after the Jewish community received a safety analysis of the current terrorist threat in the country. It was considered too dangerous to allow the schools to open on Friday, according to the analysis provided by Israeli security service Mossad. Mossad is an international intelligence agency that gives security advice to countries with a large Jewish community.

Isi Morsel, the head of the largest Jewish school, Jesode Hatora, said: “We were informed that we are a potential target and therefore we are taking no chances. The school will remain closed until further notice.”

The parents of the pupils were informed of the decision on Thursday via text message.
