Car sales down in Belgium by 3.6%
In February there were 44,504 new cars registered in Belgium, a decrease of 3.6% compared to the same month in 2013, according to automobile federation Febiac.
In the first two months of this year there were 91,828 new cars registered, a decrease of 4.1% compared to the same period in 2013. Motorcycle sales also fell in February, down 1.3% to 1,971.
"The only growth in the market so far comes from the sale of commercial vehicles," reports Febiac in a press release. In February there were 5,087 newly registered light commercial vehicles, an increase of 8.6%. Heavy vehicles (+16 tonnes) saw an increase of 6.3% percent to 592.
The most popular car brands in February were Renault (4,244 vehicles), followed by Peugeot (3,867) and Volkswagen (3,757). The federation notes that there were twice as many Porsches registered in February (254), but half the usual number of Teslas (16), the luxury brand of electric cars.
