Fewer new businesses, bankruptcies in Belgium in first half of 2015
The number of new companies in Belgium decreased in the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2014. The number of bankruptcies has also gone down, reports Trends.
The first half of 2015 saw nearly 1,500 less companies start up than in the first half of last year. The decrease is largely due to the month of June, which saw the launch of just 3,000 start-ups, compared to more than 4,000 in June 2014.
Bankruptcies in Belgium are also on a downward trend, with 5,620 bankruptcies in the first six months of 2015, 10% less than in 2014. Young entrepreneurs (active for less than five years) are especially vulnerable to bankruptcy, accounting for 38% of the companies that went under so far in 2015. About 18% of the bankrupt companies this year were less than three years old.
Weak capital remains a hindrance for many Belgian start-ups, according to Trends.
