state pension and private pension
hello,
I am an expat and wonder if there is a website to see how much has been contributed towards my state pension by my employer.
second question: I am not a EU citizen. What are my options for private pension plans in the world (or Europe) where I can contribute regardless of my nationality? i.e. I was told it is okay to have a trading account in Belgium but now my bank requires me to identify myself every year (as my residence permit is renewed each year) Meaning, if I were to stop living here, they would probably freeze my accounts? Obviously, I need to be able to access my accounts or pension plan in the long run.
many thanks in advance.
I don't think that the pension system here works in the way that you seem to think.
My wife's pension is based on 'qualifying years' and includes time when she was a stay-at-home mother caring for the kids. Also years when she was classed as an invalid and was unable to work. In both cases there were no employer contributions.
Our mutuelle offers monthly sessions in their local office where you can get all the info you need about your individual pension situation. I've no idea whether all mutuelles offer this kind of help.
As to your second question, you must get advice direct from your bank and any potential private pension provider. If whatever answers you get here are inaccurate or incomplete, you cannot go to your bank and say that you have been told...........whatever..........by a total stranger.
You may want to connect with a pensions and savings guy who deals with expats. The guy i use is mark.willee@pic-europe.com he set up things for me back in 2001 and is used to dealing with expats.
