Grades - European School

Question

I would like to get views on what grades mean in the European School system. For a child in Secondary 3 - would you be concerned about a child getting Grade 7 in a few subjects? Do you aspire to Grade 10 for your children? Is Grade 10 very difficult to achieve? Should the child be getting support for subjects in which they are achieving Grade 7? Of course the teachers can guide but I would like parents views. Thank you.

OK, its some 25 years since I did my BAC européene, but did attend a euro school from 1st primary until 7th secondary.

grades mean this (back then anyway)

5.9 and under : fail
6+ : pass
7: average
8: good
9+: you're doing great

Although, at secondary 3 you're what, 12-14 years old? I wouldn't sweat it at that age. The important grades are 6th secondary (grades used to apply for university places) and BAC in 7th. Personally, I scored a distinctly average 7.9 in my BAC, more from laziness than lack of inteliigence. But still managed to get into a decent law school, then did a free french degree (free in that I already spoke and wrote fluent french), then still to lazy to work, did an MSc. So there's hope for your kid yet.
