12 Belgian festivals nominated for European Festival Awards

Twelve Belgian festivals are in the running to come out a winner during the 2015 European Festival Awards, writes the VRT. Rock Werchter was nominated in three categories, including Best Major Festival where it will go head-to-head with other Belgian festivals Tomorrowland, Graspop and Dour, among others.

The shortlist was announced this week, revealing the finalists for this year's 7th edition of the prestigious awards, based on more than 800,000 votes cast by fans from 50 different European countries for their favourite festivals and artists.

Rock Werchter is the largest Belgian contender, with three nominations, Graspop Metal Meeting was nominated twice, and Tomorrowland (pictured) and Pukkelpop one time each. The winners will be announced on 13 January.

Best Major Festival: Dour Festival, Rock Werchter, Graspop Metal Meeting and Tomorrowland

Best Medium-sized Festival: Ardentes

Best Small Festival: Your'In Festival

Best Indoor Festival: Les Heures Ind, Les Transardentes, Lokerse feesten, PIAS Nites

Best Line-up: Graspop Metal Meeting, Rock Werchter

Artists' Favourite Festival: Pukkelpop, Rock Werchter

Promoter of the Year: Live Nation Belgium

Green Operations Award: Ypres Hardcore Fest
