Tax return

Question

Hello. Does anyone know someone who is very knoweldgable with the UK-Belgian tax regulations/agreements and can therefore help me to fill in my Belgian tax declaration?

I work part time here and part time in the UK - whilst officially living here and the company is UK registered. It's actually only a few numbers and I have all the info ready, so it's just a question of ensuring the right number goes in the right box..... I don't want to make a mess of it!

I know BDO Accountants can do it, but they ate too much sugar before quoting me!

There must be people in similar boats, so I'd appreciate a contact.

Thanks in advance.

I'm in s similar position. A quick check with my local tax office revealed the person spoke little English and I, little French. My problem is multiple sources of income from multiple countries, some of which is likely not income at all unless drawn on. I just don't know. Just out of curiosity, what did BDO quote you?

Make an appointment to see the Inspector at your (Belgian) tax office - the contact number is on the tax form. He/she will complete the form for you if you take all the relevant information. The service is completely free and you will have the extra satisfaction of knowing that the information has been correctly coded. If there should be a "dispute" over where a particular piece of income is taxed (and the rules are actually reasonably clear so it shouldn't happen), the Belgian and UK tax authorities will liaise with each other to ensure that you aren't taxed twice.

I just used the search facility on the site and several firms are mentioned. So is the figure of 500 euro an hour. Ouch.

Thanks for your replies. BDO were asking €650. There are, perhaps, ten numbers involved. They justify their fee by going on about diligence etc etc ...but it's my tax return and I sign it !!!! I'm sure they would either run or charge me again, were anything declared and incorrect. So, that's a no goer for me, on principle as well as the fee.

I will look into the Belgian Tax Office option but I'd have thought I will need a specialist. These treaties are complex and written in legalise.....! It's the rules around apportionment and differences in relief, is where is can get tricky. Tax Relief in the UK, naturally not here ;-)

Anyone else out there.....?????? I'm happy to pay. Just not that much.

Thanks.
