Former Belgian PM Guy Verhofstadt tells off Brexit leader Nigel Farage

11:59 29/06/2016

During a combative meeting in the European Parliament, leader of the UK Independence Party (Ukip) Nigel Farage was the target of heated criticism from numerous parliament members for his role in leading the Brexit 'Leave' Camp to fruition.

One of these was former Belgian prime minister Guy Verhofstadt, who hurled accusations at Farage (pictured), such as "using Nazi propaganda" and "having an offshore financial construction while pretending to represent the lower social classes". The cynical Verhofstadt ended on a positive note: “Finally we are going to get rid of the biggest waste in the budget of the Union – that we have paid for 17 years – your salary,” he told the Ukip leader.

Farage laughed off the comments before launching a verbal counter-attack on his colleagues, which garnered boos from the majority of the MPs.

Mr Farage has got what he has campaigned for. He and his fellow UKIP MEPs should, logically, now resign their EP seats.
