Boxing lesson for pensioners at Molenbeek home

Feisty pensioners at a retirement home in Molenbeek have been trying their hand at boxing as part of a project that aims to introduce the elderly residents to new activities.

Emergence XL fitness club in Ixelles welcomed the boxing novices from Acacias residence, kitted them out with gloves and offered them some technical and defensive pointers, before they were encouraged to square off.

Bouts of glove-touching and tip-tapping one another lasted a couple of short rounds, and afterwards the retirees had time to hit punchbags. Even those who attended the workout as spectators ended up getting in on the action.

The boxing lesson was part of an inter-generational project at the retirement home, where pensioners work with young people to record a web TV series called Papy Boom where they try out new experiences.
