Afternoon all,
Was wondering if anyone has had experience of renting their flat out in Brussels and using an agency to manage any problems and to select and then act as a contact point with the tenants etc?
Would you know roughly how much such a service would cost?
Any reccomendations?
We may rent out our appt due to a potential posting and would not, of course, be able to deal with any emergencies if and when they may arise.

Hello. I am sorry to not be more positive but I would exercise extreme caution about doing this in Brussels. I am in a similar situation, living long periods abroad and unable to oversee emergencies etc. I have simply not found a trustworthy solution and have eventually decided to sell my house instead, although I love it. To give one example an entrepreneur, who I have worked with, told me in relation to this that he was on several occasions contracted by managing agents to do repairs on houses and apartments, whose expat owners were abroad and each time when he presented his bill the agents asked him to vastly inflate the price and split the difference between them. I know that this is just one example but I am astonished at how many constant house/honesty issues I have both experienced and heard of in my direct circle here. I am sure many people will post comments saying this can happen anywhere. However, I have lived on several continents and it is only in Brussels that I have known so many problematic experiences. Please do be careful and try to locate a managing agents or other solution that somebody can seriously vouch for from personal experience.
