International vs Local french school for Australian boy aged 2.5?

Question

Hi all, Another question to put out there to all the online Mums..... I'm investigating the options of an International school vs a local french maternelle for by 2 and half year old boy. Because he is so young, I thought that a local french school would be just fine, and he will be able to learn french very quickly and make local friends. But I am concerned about my communication with the school as my french is very poor. My husbands company will pay the school fee's - so if money is no object what do you think is the best?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts....

I think it depends how long you're going to be here - French education is quite different from an anglophone one, and if you leave when he's 5 and he doesn't do any French anywhere else, he'll forget most of it quite quickly. But if you are likely to be here for a long time (I'd suggest more than 5 years) or you are likely to move on to another francophone country, I'd go French. Less than that, and you might all find it quite a stressful experience - especially if his language skills don't progress as you might hope (my no2 son spent 4 years in a Belgian school and still couldn't speak French at the end - but I would accept he's unusual, although not unique)
