Belgium to levy 10% tax on 'sharing economy' work

From 1 March, any business within the collaborative or sharing economy sector will have to deduct a 10% professional withholding tax on payments made to users. This includes companies such as Airbnb, Uber and Deliveroo.

Le Soir reports that the 10% deduction shall apply to the gross amount paid - "that is to say the amount actually paid by the platform, plus all sums retained by the platform" such as fees.

The Belgian federal government hopes the new tax will raise €20 million a year in revenue.
