Novel Method of Stealing Luggage at Gare du Midi

Question

Has anyone been robbed of their luggage in quite such an ingenious way?
This evening I picked up my wife at GduM (rue de France at the end where the coaches leave for Charleroi) having parked outside the double doors to the right of the cobbled horseshoe road which encircles the downward ramp to the underground car park). They must have been watching us! I embraced my wife, put her suitcase in the boot, closed the boot, we got in the car and drove off. As we approached the zebra crossing at the exit end of the horseshoe road, we heard the boot bang close. Yes close. It was odd to hear that noise, but there was nothing suspicious visible from the rear view mirror so we drove on, keen to get home. Only when we reached home did we deduce what must have happened. Rather than engaging immediately, the autolock on our car boot comes into effect a few seconds after closing or moving off. During those few seconds, someone, perhaps hiding nearby, must have opened the boot as we were moving slowly away, taken my wife's suitcase and then slammed the boot. Fortunately it contained nothing of value. The psychology is clever - the victims are engrossed in "how was your trip" conversation and because there are no visual cues, the noise of the boot closing is not enough to disrupt the warm feeling of being again with friends or loved ones (leaving the boot open would be noticeable and cause the driver to stop). Bag stealing at Gare du Midi has been a specialist trade for many years but this is a novel technique worth bewaring.

No but I know a friend of a friend who was in Carrefour car park and after she got in her car a woman with a map came and managed to get her out the car on some pretence and someone else opened her passenger door removed her wallet from her handbag and she only realised as she went to drive away that door was open and she went straight into the store who called the police and in that time they had taken. Only from all her card because they had watch her use her PIN so cant be too careful I say
