Charities in need

Hello!

Does anyone know of any charities that people can "sponsor" a child for Christmas or even a reputable charity that we could donoate new toys/clothes? I was thinking something like the Salvation Army's Angel Tree back in the US where you pick a child in need and buy there needs for Christmas. We would like our daughter to start to learn the concept of giving to those in need/give back to community. Even a food bank where we could donate our time would be great as well. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
