traffic fine

Question

after an hour of online research, including Flanders' police website, i'm getting the impression that going to court to contest a traffic fine with only the argument that i was ignorant of any violation i might have made and to say that i'm sorry from the bottom of my heart, will lead to not only no reduction of the fine but it could actually lead to also having to pay court costs. Would this be a correct analysis of the situation in Belgium?

It depends what is the fine for
say you drove drunk at 120 km /H in town you sure better not go to court but if it's a minor offence and you don't have other driving offences I would go and defend myself
